Touristenfahrten Without Lap Timing

Official Nürburgring rules forbid timekeeping on public tourist rides for the driver and for a coach or passenger. Leave every timer off on TF. Use coach logging on closed events that allow timing.

The rule we respect

Touristenfahrten (TF) are public sessions on the Nordschleife under German road traffic rules (StVO). The official Fahrordnung states that no timekeeping whatsoever is permitted during tourist rides, including Bridge to Gantry (BTG) times. Every timing device must be switched off before you start.

That includes a coach in the passenger seat. If the lap timer is on, it is still timekeeping. Hidden timers and post-stop reveals do not change the rule while the device is logging on track.

Official rules also restrict training and guided formats on Touristenfahrten without Nürburgring approval. Do not treat public TF as a substitute for an authorized coaching day. The Nordschleife BTG page is layout context only, not permission to time or run coach logging on TF.

How to use LapsHub around a TF day

1

Leave every timer off on track

Do not start lap timing, RaceBox timing, coach logging with the timer on, or any BTG clock for Touristenfahrten. Driver phone and passenger phone both count.

2

Keep the ride eyes-up

Follow flag rules, keep right, and treat traffic like a public road. A passenger can help with awareness; do not run a competition timer.

3

Save coach logging for allowed sessions

Right-seat coaching with an active lap timer belongs on closed GP or Nordschleife events where organizers permit timing, or on other tracks that allow it.

4

Debrief without a TF time file

After you exit, talk through the run and use general app tools you already have. Do not rely on a timed TF session that should not have been recorded.

Where coach timing does belong

LapsHub coaching is built for instructional track days. At the Ring, use it when the session allows timing, not on public Touristenfahrten.

Closed Nordschleife or GP

When organizers allow timing, coaches can log from the right seat into the student account and leave map debriefs for later.

Map marks after allowed sessions

Pin braking points and apex notes on replay from sessions that were legal to time.

TF stays timer-off

On Touristenfahrten, switch every timing device off. No driver timer, no coach timer, no silent background lap clock.

FAQ

Can I time Touristenfahrten with LapsHub?

No. Official rules forbid any timekeeping on Touristenfahrten, including BTG times. Do not run lap timing during public tourist rides.

Can a coach time from the passenger seat on TF?

No. A coach phone with the lap timer on is still a timekeeping device. Save right-seat logging for closed events that allow timing.

Does hiding the timer make TF logging OK?

No. If the app is still computing and storing lap times during the tourist ride, the device is not switched off under the published rule.

Why does LapsHub have a BTG track page?

BTG describes the Bridge to Gantry tourist stretch in the catalog. Use it as layout context. Do not treat it as permission to time TF.

When should I use lap timing at the Ring?

On closed GP or Nordschleife events where timing is allowed. See the layout chooser and the Nürburgring hub.

What about the GP circuit on a TF day?

Touristenfahrten run on the Nordschleife. Use Nürburgring GP only for Grand Prix circuit sessions.
